Waste and recycling collections back to normal

Release date: 17 January 2018

Waste and recycling collection schedules in Cotswold District are largely back to normal. Crews from Ubico Ltd have been working long hours to catch up on the backlog of collections arising from a combination of poor weather, extra volumes, bank holidays, and higher than average rates of staff illness as a result of the recent flu bug.

During the Christmas and New Year period, Ubico encountered snow, ice and high winds over several days which sometimes made it unsafe for crews to make collections in certain areas. Taking account of the days already lost to bank holidays, the crews worked extra days and long hours to get back on track.

Throughout the delays to collections, CDC officers and the Cabinet Member for the Environment, Cllr Sue Coakley, liaised regularly with Ubico to ensure that the catch up was carried out as effectively as possible.

 Cllr Coakley comments:

“I realise that some residents have had to wait slightly longer for collections than initially anticipated, and I apologise for any delay.  However, I have to say that Ubico have done a great job given the circumstances, and residents should realise how hard they have  had to work to get things back on track.  I am very grateful to the crews for their efforts over a very trying few weeks, and I sincerely hope that we can now get through the rest of the winter with minimum disruption.”

Anyone who has not yet received a collection during the last few weeks should contact 01285 623123 so that we can reschedule.
