Chyp provides accommodation for young homeless people aged 16 to 25 and works with them so that they are able to live independently in future. The charity has helped more than 400 young people since being set up in 1986. Money raised from sales in the shop helps fund the charity’s work in the Cotswold District.

Start Freecycling

A growing number of Cotswold’s residents are promoting waste reduction by giving away (and receiving) unwanted goods for free.

There are more than 750 members in the North Cotswold Freecycle group, which is part of the global Freecycle Network, a non-profit internet-based organisation which is open to anyone interested in keeping good stuff out of landfill sites.

Freecycle members post unwanted items on the website ranging from old pieces of carpet to pieces of furniture and from children’s toys to pianos.

They are then matched to other members who can make good use of the items, the only rules being that everything posted on the website must be free, legal and appropriate for all ages.

The first UK Freecycle group was set up in London in October 2003 and there are now nearly 800,000 members across the country, including nearly 9,000 in Gloucestershire.
